Willcox (pop. 3,213) is located along Interstate 10, halfway between Phoenix and El Paso, with access to the main Union Pacific railway line. Known as the “Cattle Capital of America,” Willcox’s economy is based largely on agriculture. The region’s award-winning wineries are attracting attention from across the state and beyond, with the vineyards producing around 75 percent of the grapes used in the flourishing Arizona wine industry. The area is also the second largest producer of pistachios globally, and other specialty crops include apples, peaches, pecans, cotton and small grains. The region is also home to one of the world’s largest hydroponic tomato greenhouse companies.
